Gateway Skating Club

Coaching Team

The Gateway Skating Club coaches work together to foster a positive learning experience within all of our programs. Team coaching and group sessions allow skaters to get to know all coaches and develop a sense of camaraderie. Our coaches feel this will keep all skaters motivated and working to achieve their goals. Skate Canada encourages the use of group sessions to better utilize ice time, to teach a good work ethic and to make skating fun. Private lesson time is also an important aspect of a skater’s development as it provides time for more specific individual coaching attention. Coaching Staff

Robin Forsyth (Program Coordinator)

Qualifications: National competitor 1995, 1997, 1999, Manitoba Ladies Champion 1996,1997. 8 years touring with world with Disney On Ice as a principle skater; 10 years experience doing choreography for up to National level skaters.

Test Record: Gold Freeskate, Gold Dance, Gold Figure, Junior Competitive, Silver Artistic

N.C.C.P. Level: Level ll Trained

Michelle Currie

Qualifications: 6 years coaching experience; 2000 Canadian Ladies Silver Medalist, International Competitor and Medalist; 5 years on the Senior national Team; National Level Technical Specialist

Test Record: Senior Competitive, Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances

N.C.C.P Level: Certified Level ll; Level lll singles, theory and technical. Partial Level lV (Unavailable during the 2009-10 season as she is coaching in Italy)

Carrie Cech

Qualifications: 9 years coaching experience (STARskate, Competitive, Canskate & Jr STARskate programs); B.Ed (After Degree); BA in Psychology

Test Record: Gold Freeskate, Skills and Interpretive (Accredited), Gold Dances

N.C.C.P. Level: Certified Level ll; Level lll singles, theory & technical

Jill Gainer

Qualifications: 8 years coaching experience, Bachelor of Physical Education, B.Ed

Test Record: 7th Figure, Sr Silver Freeskate, Gold Dance, Competitive Skating Skills Class 3, Novice Competitive

N.C.C.P. Level: Level ll Certified Singles

Mark Tkacz

Qualifications: Former competitive skater from BC and has spent 10 years as a Priniple performer with Disney on Ice

Test Record: Gold Freeskate, Gold Figure, Sr Silver Dances, Novice Competitive

N.C.C.P. Level: Level l Phase 3

Shauna Dimock

Qualifications: 20+ years coaching National Test at all levels of private and Skate Canada skating programs.

Test Record: 7th Figure, Gold Freeskate, Gold Free Dance, Gold Interpretive Dance, Novice Competitive Pairs
