Gateway Skating Club

Coaching Team

The Gateway Skating Club coaches work together to foster a positive learning experience within all of our programs. Team coaching and group sessions allow skaters to get to know all coaches and develop a sense of camaraderie. Our coaches feel this will keep all skaters motivated and working to achieve their goals. Skate Canada encourages the use of group sessions to better utilize ice time, to teach a good work ethic and to make skating fun. Private lesson time is also an important aspect of a skater’s development as it provides time for more specific individual coaching attention. Robin Forsyth (Program Coordinator)

Test Record: Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances, Gold Figure, Junior Comp, Silver Artistic

Qualifications: 8 years Disney On Ice as a principle skater; 10 years choreography experience for up to National level skaters; Jr National Competitor, Manitoba Ladies Champion, 1996, 1997

N.C.C.P. Level II Certified; Partial Level III

Michelle Currie

Test Record: Senior Comp, Gold Freeskate, Gold Dances

Qualifications: 9 years coaching experience, 2 years coaching in Italy, 2000 Canadian ladies Silver Medalist; International competitor and Medalist; 5 years on Senior National Teams

N.C.C.P. Level III Certified

Carrie Cech

Test Record: Gold Freekate, Gold Skills and Interpretive (accredited), Gold Dance

Qualifications: 13 years coaching experience; B.Ed; BA in Psychology

Jill Gainer

Test Record: 7th Figure, Novice Comp, Gold Dances, Skating Skills Class 3

Qualifications: 12 years coaching experience, Bachelor of Physical Education, B.Ed

Mark Tkacz

Test Record: Gold Freeskate, Gold Figure, Sr Silver Dances, Novice Competitive

Qualifications: : Former competitive skater from BC and has spent 10 years as a Principle performer with Disney on Ice

N.C.C.P. Level: Certified Level 1

Shauna Dimock

Test Record: 7th Figure, Gold Freeskate, Gold Free Dance, Gold Interpretive Dance, Novice Competitive Pairs

Qualifications: 20+ years coaching National Test at all levels of private and Skate Canada skating programs

N.C.C.P. Level: Level II Certified; Level III Theory

Cristen Lockhart

Test Record: Jr Silver Freeskate Elements, Gold Dances, Gold Skills, Gold Interpretive, Bronze Rhythm

Qualifications: 3 years coaching experience, 7 years PA; National Silver Medalist Jr Synchoronized Skating 2001

N.C.C.P. Level 1 Certified

Lee Bakker

Test Record: Sr Comp Singles, Jr Comp Pairs, Novice Comp Dance, Gold: Free Skate, Dance, Artistic, Figures and Skills (class 1), Bronze Rhythm Dance and Ten Fox variation.

Qualifications: 6 Time National competitor (6 singles, 1 Pairs), Divisional Competitor in Dance. Provincial, Western Canadian Divisional and Canada Winter Games Champion, 2 yrs coaching experience, 3 years partnering experience.

N.C.C.P. Level: Certified Level One.
