Gateway Skating Club Junior STARskate Program

Junior STARskate Group

Program Description

Junior STARskate Group provides an introduction into the primary skills of figure skating and is for skaters who have not passed any preliminary tests but have some previous skating experience. The Junior STARskate program is a stepping point between CanSkate and figure skating and focuses on the skills of edges, spins, jumps and dance. This program consists of an on-ice component which is supplemented by an off-ice session.

On-ice sessions are conducted by professional NCCP coaches in a group format. There is approximately one coach for every 6 skaters on the ice. Off-ice sessions incorporate a combination of flexibility and jump exercises, core strength activities and cardio-training. Skaters also learn the importance of pre-skate warm up.

To enhance skill development we recommend that skaters skate twice a week in the Junior STARskate program or supplement one day of the group program with a private lesson. Ask a coach for more information.
