Our CanSkate Program

CanSkate is Canada’s only learn-to-skate program for all ages. It focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development in a group lesson format. The technical skills include a focus on teaching and mastering strong basic skills earlier to prepare skaters for all ice sports – hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating.
PRE-CANSKATE
AGES 3-5 YEARS
Class Length: 30 or 45 Minutes
There will be NO PreCan for the Fall 2020 season due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions. Please see if your child fits our JUNIOR CanSkate program. *
This program is geared towards skaters age 3-5 years old providing the development of basic skating skills in a fun and engaging environment. Skaters will learn educational concepts while learning to skate at the same time. It is a “Playschool on Ice”.
Pre-CanSkaters receive report cards at the end of each season. Coaches will let parents know when their children is ready to move onto the regular CANSKATE program.
JUNIOR CANSKATE
AGES 3-5 YEARS
Class Length: 30 or 45 Minutes
This program is for beginner skaters that have previously taken our Pre-CanSkate program, but have not yet completed it. Skaters need to have passed "fall down", "stand-up", and "move forward" on their Pre-Can report card, before registering for Junior CanSkate. Skaters must be capable of following a circuit for approximately 30 mins of the 45 minute session, and listen to coaches instruction.
There will be no hands-on assistance due to physical distancing rules. Skaters will be following CanSkate circuits, but will be given extra help and do activities tailored to young skaters. Skaters will learn educational concepts while learning to skate at the same time. It is a "Playschool on Ice".

CANSKATE
AGES 5-12 YEARS
Class Length: 45 Minutes
This program focuses on teaching and mastering strong basic skills to prepare skaters for all ice sports— hockey, ringette speed skating and figure skating. On-ice delivery focuses on continuous movement and emphasizes the use of new and more dynamic group teaching concepts.
Skaters will receive report cards at the end of each season. Coaches will let parents know when their children is ready to move onto the ADVANCED CanSkate program.
ADVANCED CANSKATE
STAGES 4-6
Class Length: 45 Minutes
This program focuses on CanSkate Stages 4-6. Skaters must continue to wear a CSA-approved helmet until they have completed CanSkate Stage 5.
Skaters will receive report cards at the end of each season.
TEEN/ADULT CANSKATE
Class Length: 45 Minutes
This program focuses on CanSkate Stages 1-6. Skaters must continue to wear a CSA-approved helmet until they have completed CanSkate Stage 5.
Skaters will receive report cards at the end of each season.
